Listening Together
Through the work of two grant programs - - Faithful Preaching Project and Children’s Sermons by Children - - the Sharing Faith Initiative seeks to empower preachers and congregations in Texas and beyond to deepen their faith-sharing practices.
Team Update: Welcome Amanda!
This summer, we welcomed Amanda Herridge as Associate Director of the Sharing Faith Initiative!
Amanda comes to us with many years of teaching and family ministry experience, and we are lucky to have her! In her role as Associate Director, she will oversee key program activities and support the work and development of both grant projects, including the Listening Tour.
Our team wants to learn from your children’s ministry in action. As the work of the Children’s Sermons by Children grant launches this year, we are looking for churches who are willing to have our team come onsite for video-recorded interviews to glean fresh insight from children, those working with children, and worship leaders. We’re calling this “The Listening Tour.” Sunday mornings interviews are currently scheduled throughout the fall but there are additional opportunities to join!
If your church would like to be part of the Listening Tour, please take a moment to fill out our Interest Form so we can be touch about specifics and scheduling.
Our Faithful Preaching Project workshop with Rev. Dr. Alyce McKenzie is full for this coming weekend, but we are excited to announce another learning opportunity within our grant programs.
On Friday, October 17, we will host Carol Wehreim for an online workshop. Carol Wehrheim has written and edited church school curriculum for years, including serving as general editor of Feasting on the Word resources for children’s sermons. Now retired, she serves as Clerk of Session at Nassau Presbyterian Church, Princeton, NJ, but her most favorite times are when she is telling the Bible story in congregational worship, which she has done for over 20 years.
Workshop Title: "Telling the Bible Story in Worship"
Date & Time: Friday, October 17 from 11:30am-1pm
Format: Zoom Webinar with Q&A
Many congregations include a “children’s sermon” or a “time for the children” in the order of worship on Sunday morning. A good use of that moment it to tell a Bible story. During this workshop, we’ll look at one set of best practices for telling the Bible story in congregational worship, then we will explore the various ways that might happen. We invite faith-sharers of all roles and responsibilities to join us for this enlightening time with Carol Wehrheim.
The Sharing Faith Initiative looks forward to working with preachers and faith communities throughout Texas & beyond in discovering new ways to share their faith with confidence and joy.
